The original funding for domestic violence shelters in the state of

Mississippi came from marriage license fees, a portion of which DAFS

receives on an annual basis.

DAFS is also currently funded by the United Way of Southeast

Mississippi; the United Way of the Pine Belt Region; federal and foundation

grants; local counties and municipalities; and church, business, school, civic

club, and individual donations.
