Internal stress
Feelings of anger, vulnerability, powerlessness, and inadequacy
Society's tolerance of violent behavior interpreted as an individual right
Ability to justify violent reactions by blaming the victim for rages and the abuse
Mimicking of violent parents or other role models
Lack of strong messages from the victim, justice system, or others that violence is not allowed.
